It is a scenic bike ride to the Great Serpent Mound in northern Adams County along SR 73,  and a must see for experiencing the earthworks of “the mound builders.”
Located atop a plateau overlooking Brush Creek Valley, it is the largest and finest serpent effigy in the United States.
A beautiful bike ride on Wheat Ridge Road will reveal a thriving Amish community with shops where handcrafted furniture and fresh bakery goods are available.
The “Clothesline of Quilts,” with barns displaying the designs and colors of quilt squares, started in Adams County. A bike ride on the Quilt Barn Trail will lead past any number of the colorful quilt squares.
Beautiful Ohio Brush Creek flows 57 miles unhindered through the center of the county and is a favorite of fishermen and canoeists.
The stream flows through rural farm land and past forested hills. Rural back roads ideal for bike riders crisscross and follow the stream in many places.
Adams County is also a place of diverse plant life with colorful spring and summer wildflowers, natural prairies, and is home to five state nature preserves. Adams County can also boast one of the largest private preserves in the east with the nearly 14,000 acre Edge of Appalachian Preserve. One of the most scenic bike routes in the area is along Waggoner Riffle Road, which runs between Brush Creek and the Edge of Appalachian Preserve.
The preserves are also great places for bird watching. Spring warbler migrations in Adams County draw visitors from all over the state.
The Olde Thyme Herb Fair takes place in Manchester during the second weekend in October. It is an arts, craft, and flower show combined into one big event and draws close to a 1,000 visitors during those two days. Adams County also has its share of small town festivals, from Old Timers Day to the Seaman Street Fair which have become must-do local events.
The views of the river and the mountainous countryside along the US 52 Ohio River Scenic Byway are spectacular. This section of Ohio River in Adams County contains three islands, two of which are part of the Ohio River National Wildlife Refuge and can be viewed from the byway.
Adams County’s rural flavor offers the perfect escape for a scenic afternoon bike ride or a weekend adventure. The many county and township roads that wind through the countryside have wonderful views, little traffic, and are perfect for bile riding. It’s easy to get lost on Adams County back roads, but don’t worry  — half the fun is finding your way back.
